Label Decoder

Flip the packet. We'll read it for you.

Ingredient lists are written for regulators, not people. Numbers, class names and the odd word nobody can pronounce. Snap the ingredients and the nutrition panel on any bar, and we'll read both for you. No brand names. No scare tactics. Just the label, decoded.

  1. Snap it.Photograph the ingredient list and the nutrition panel on any bar, or paste them in. Fill the frame and use good light.
  2. Read it.Every ingredient, in order, in plain English: what it is, why it's there and what else it brings.
  3. Check the flags. We count four things: flavourings, sweeteners, seed oils and food additives. They're not verdicts, just the things that are easy to miss in small print.
Photograph the ingredients and nutrition panel, or use a photo you've already taken.

Get the ingredients and the nutrition panel in one shot if you can. Get close and keep it sharp, as blurry photos get rejected rather than guessed.

We don't keep your photo. It's read once to decode the label, then discarded.

AI-generated explanation. It can get things wrong, so always check the pack. For allergens, read the allergen statement on the pack.

Why we built this

We started Raised because we couldn't find a bar we were happy with after we flipped it over and read the back.

Most labels are technically honest and practically unreadable. "Flavour" can legally cover a mix of ingredients that never get listed. A number like 471 tells you nothing unless you already know what it is.

This tool doesn't tell you what to eat. It tells you what's in it and how the processed stuff is generally made, then leaves the call to you. Run it on our bars too. That's the point.

Now flip ours.

Every ingredient in every Raised bar. Decode any of them yourself.

Label Decoder FAQ

  • It’s a free tool that reads food labels for you. Snap the ingredient list and nutrition panel on any packaged food, or paste the list in. You’ll get every ingredient explained in plain English: what it is, why it’s there and, for processed ones, how it’s generally made. You get 5 free decodes a day.

  • We count four things that are easy to miss in small print: flavourings, sweeteners, seed oils and food additives. They’re facts about what’s on the label, not verdicts. We don’t make health calls or score products. A flag just means it’s in there, and now you know.

  • Under Australian labelling rules, a flavouring can be listed simply as “flavour” or “flavouring”, and the ingredients that make it up don’t have to be listed. Natural or not, you can’t tell from the pack what’s actually in it. That’s the reason for the flag.

  • It reads what’s printed and is usually right. But it’s AI, so it can misread a blurry photo or a curved pack. Anything it can’t read clearly is marked as unclear rather than guessed. The “how it’s made” notes come from our own fact-checked library, not the AI. If something looks off, tap “Something look wrong?” and we’ll fix it. For allergens, always read the allergen statement on the pack.

  • It works on any packaged food or drink with an ingredient list: bars, crackers, sauces, yoghurt, protein powder, the lot. We built it for bars because that’s our world, but a label is a label.

  • They’re food additive code numbers from the International Numbering System, which Australia uses for additives like emulsifiers, preservatives and colours. 322 is lecithin and 471 is mono- and diglycerides. The decoder tells you what each number is, and how it’s generally made where we have an entry for it.

  • No. Your photo is sent to our AI provider to be read, then discarded, and we never store it. We use your IP address only to apply the daily limit, and delete it within 48 hours. Full details are in our privacy policy.

  • They shape up pretty good! Don’t take our word for it. Decode one yourself using the buttons further up the page.
